KUALA LUMPUR: Every year, Sekolah Menengah Stella Maris adopts a theme for the students and staff to focus on. The theme for 2015 is Care, Share and Love. This theme was carefully formulated in line with the school’s vision and values programme which seeks to inculcate noble values into the hearts of every student.
As the Principal, Dato’ A. R. Peter pointed out at the beginning of the year, “If we care, we will naturally share; and by sharing, we will grow in our love for one another.” The school also wants to align itself with the priorities of our newly appointed Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, Most Rev Julian Leow, whose focus is on the 4Ls: the Lost, the Last, the Least and the Little. In his maiden speech, the Archbishop said, “Greatness is when we have contributed something for another, for their benefit: prosper thy neighbour. Great men and women are remembered by history when they have given to society, how they have enriched humanity by their philosophy and theology, by their thoughts, words and deeds.” We hope that Stella Marisians will aspire to this definition of greatness.
Furthermore, in response to the call of the Archbishop, the Board of Governors initiated a fundraising campaign to help the people of Nepal in light of the recent earthquake tragedy. The parents and students responded generously and a sum of RM 20,860.00 was collected within a week. This money was passed to the Archdiocese to be channelled to the relevant organisations in direct contact with the people of Nepal. --By ALex Chan
