KRAKOW, Poland: Speaking with journalists on his flight to Poland for World Youth Day, Pope Francis agreed that “the world is at war,” but it is a conflict over “interests, money, resources” and ”not a religious war,” BBC News reports.
The pontiff was commenting on the murder by jihadists of French priest, Fr Jacques Hamel.
“The word we hear a lot is insecurity, but the real word is war,” Pope Francis said.
“We must not be afraid to say the truth, the world is at war because it has lost peace.
”When I speak of war I speak of wars over interests, money, resources, not religion. All religions want peace, it’s the others who want war,” Pope Francis added.
“It is not really organic but it is organised,” Pope Francis continued according to Vatican Insider. “But it is a war. This holy priest, died just as he was offering a prayer for peace. He is one person, but how many Christians, how many innocent people, how many children… Let us think of Nigeria, for example. We say: but that is Africa! It’s war. We,” the Pope continued, “are not afraid to tell the truth, the world is at war because it has lost its peace.”
“I would just like to add one more thing by way of clarification: when I speak of war, I mean real war, not religious war. I speak of a war of interests, over money, nature’s resources and the domination of peoples,” he emphasized.
Addressing the subject of World Youth Day, Pope Francis noted that “youth always speaks hope to us.”
“We hope young people will tell us something that is a bit more than hope at this time,” he concluded. -- Global Pulse
