In line with the Church in the Philippines’ celebration of the “Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities,” San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish Youth Ministry (SIDTPYM) held their first ever Parish Youth Day (PYD), recognising the importance of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs), the faithful at the grassroots level.
Youth coordinator Maria Bernadette Bautista confirmed that students from different schools and youth from the BECs under the parish participated in the said event.
“We included the BEC youth in this event because we believe that we must reach out to even small chapels and communities as we are celebrating the Year of the Parish,” she explained.
The programme tackled the theme, Everything that the father gives me will come to me. And I will not reject anyone who comes to me - John 6:37, which focused on welcoming young people to serve God and be united as one parish and one community.
“We, as brothers and sisters, must experience the bond of unity with God. And through this event, we are now one with him,” said Bautista.
The PYD is an event inspired by the World Youth Day (WYD), which aims to gather the youth, to promote a sense of belonging and responsibility for one another, and to celebrate God’s glory.
Spearheaded by the San Ildefonso Parish Youth Ministry, the programme gathered a total of 72 delegates and 28 volunteers.
