Some 40 young people from various parishes of the KL North District came together on February 18 for a Youth Rally with the theme ALIVE IN CHRIST (Eph 2:5). The Youth Rally was organised by the St Joseph Youth Ministry and facilitated by KASIH MINISTRY – a team of 15 enthusiastic Catholic youths trained to do youth to youth evangelisation and formation programmes.
The rally began with the surprising visit of Archbishop Julian Leow who dropped by to convey his love to all the youths present that morning. In his usual warm and spontaneous style, Archbishop Julian led the opening prayer and greeting to the youth.
This was then followed by a welcoming speech by Fr George Packiasamy, parish priest of St Joseph’s Church, Sentul.
KASIH kick started the day’s programme with an enthusiastic and fun introduction of its team members. A short ice-breaking session got the youths acquainted with each other before the first session of praise and worship for the day.
The three sessions of the day were geared to help the youth come ALIVE IN CHRIST. The sessions Alive In Christ, Alive in the Family and Alive in the Church were presented by KASIH team members Norman Vincent, Steven Emmanuel and Yvonne Lim. The speakers drove home the point that to be truly ALIVE, Catholic youth need to experience the unconditional love of God, be more forgiving within the family and become prophets, priests and kings in the Church. Each session incorporated creativities such as a mime called “Marionette” and a sign language activity entitled “You are My Father.”
Participants were also divided into small groups where they were able to share and express their perspectives, ideas and challenges in answering the call of being “ALIVE” as a Catholic youth today.
Later, Fr George gave a brief introduction on the “Synod for Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment” which will be held in 2018.
The events of the day were brought to a conclusion with a prayer session where the young people experienced the love of Jesus to heal them and the power of the Holy Spirit to restore them. The worship team led by KASIH music director, Felix Wong, led the people into a powerful encounter with God through worship in music and song.
The youths then proceeded to join the Sunset Mass in St Joseph for an amazing encounter with Christ who makes them truly come ALIVE in Him, family and the church.
Despite such a short time together, it was indeed an astounding witnessing to the Catholic faith.
