Youths learn about the charismatic renewal in the Church

TAWAU (Herald Malaysia): The Holy Trinity Parish Youth Ministry successfully organized their fifth monthly meeting on Aug 9 with 73 young people. The objective of the meeting was to impart to the youth the history and function of the Catholic Church with the theme, The Charismatics in the Catholic Church.

The talk was presented by Francis Kamuntah and assisted by Magrina Kiob, who are active members of the Charismatic renewal movement. Many other activities were lined up for the participants between 12.30pm to 3.00pm, including spiritual talks which are very important for our youth at the present time.

Some of the points highlighted by Francis Kamuntah were:

-- a summary of the history, function and fruits of the Charismatic movement,
-- a general introduction on the Speaking of Tongues, Exorcisms, Deliverance, the Laying of Hands and Healing. Magrina Kiob spoke on:
-- spiritual discussions, with video presentation,
-- testimony activities to be undertaken by Catholic priests,
-- the reality and awareness among young Catholics who are influenced by horror films or exorcisms that are incorrect.

Apart from this programme, there were also preparatory sessions on the formation of faith, for the youth to prepare themselves to participate in Sabah Youth Day which will be held in this parish next year.

The essence of this programme contributes greatly to the formation of the youth and the community through healthy interaction. It will also help to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and the Church. Many of the youth who have been actively involved in this programme before have now become facilitators. They have the experience of faith that has made them brave to share their own life experiences.
