IPOH (Herald Malaysia): St Michael’s Church English youth group organized a special breakfast treat for about 200 mothers after Mass on May11.
Showing their appreciation of all mothers, the English youth group with thirty members, contributed towards the breakfast spread through their fundraising activities. It was the first time the youths had organized a breakfast session on such a scale.
The event was to instill a feeling of love and appreciation of mothers amongst the Catholic community. In addition, the form four students of SMC’s Sunday School recited a poem in church honouring mothers, testifying how mothers have been supportive, loving and caring.
Then the St Theresa Choir sang “Mother of Mine” for all mothers.
SMC parish priest Fr Stephen Liew thanked all mothers, before saying a special prayer and then blessing them. “God created mothers to share his love for us,” he said.
After Mass, they were invited to the parish hall where the SMC English youth group had prepared a breakfast consisting of fried meehoon, nasi lemak and hot drinks.
Fr Robin Andrews, the priest-in-residence, blessed the food, and joined in.
There was entertainment, too, as the mothers were invited to join in a special “dance” game.
14-year-old Annmarie Pereira, said she admired and appreciated her mother’s giving attitude towards helping anyone in need without any discrimination.
Her friend, Jacqueline Dominic, 13, said the quality she appreciated most in her mother was her kindness.
Veronica Lau, 23, said her mother was always attentive to her needs and really listened to her.
“She would take the time to prepare some food I just mentioned in passing or sew up a button missing from my jeans,” she said.
