KUALA LUMPUR (Herald Malaysia): Cardinal Fernando Filoni, the prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples has sent a thank you letter to Archbishop Murphy Pakiam for his many years of dedicated service to the Church in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.

“Since 2003 when the Church in Kuala Lumpur was entrusted to you as its Chief Pastor, you have remained close to the Catholic community above all during trying and challenging times, always inviting the faithful to remain steadfast in their Christian faith, identity and life. In fact, they have found in you a paternal spiritual leader who has courageously stood by them, never wavering, in defending their legitimate rights as believers in a multi-religious and multi-ethnic society,” said Cardinal Filoni in his letter dated Feb 6, 2013.

“The Holy Father, upon accepting your resignation, asked me to assure you of his prayers and willingly extends to you and the entire People of God in Kuala Lumpur his Apostolic Blessing. Moreover, if you plan to visit Rome, His Holiness will be pleased to meet you as a good Brother in Christ and in the episcopal fraternity, co-sharing the responsibility for the Church.

“This Dicastery has taken note, as well, that the College of Consultors elected you as Diocesan Administrator for this period of sede vacante.”
