Mass in conjunction with Police Day at Tawau parish

TAWAU: Eight senior police officers, 50 other rank and file policemen and policewomen of the Christian faith of the Tawau Police Headquarters together with their families attended a special mass to mark the 209th Police Day Celebration at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday, 17th April 2016. Also in attendance were six retired police personnel. The theme for this year's celebration is 'Polis dan masyarakat berpisah tiada'  (Nothing can separate the police from the society)

More than 500 parishioners attended the Holy Mass, which was presided over by Msgr Nicholas Ong, the rector. The police personnel proclaimed the readings and psalms, did the collection and the offertory.

 Addressing the police personnel, Msgr Ong said that he was happy to have the Holy Mass to mark the 209th Police Day Celebration. The police personnel participated in the readings, psalms, as wardens and offertory. The active participation of the police, in taking up roles in the mass is a clear sign of the strong commitment and faithfulness as a Catholic.

Msgr Ong reminded the police to always place God in the centre as they carry out their duty in maintaining peace and order wherever they serve. He called upon the police to always be merciful just as your Father is merciful (Luke 6 : 36) in conjunction with the Extraordinary Year of Mercy.

After the Eucharistic celebration, officers and members of the PDRM and their families, the priests, seminarians and religious sisters adjourned to the Catechetical Hall for a luncheon fellowship. DSP Tan Yong Soon called upon all Christian police personnel to always emulate Christ in carrying out their duty. He thanked Msgr Ong for presiding over the mass and the parishioners for the support extended to the police.

ASP Joan Lee, the Chairperson for the event and her committee members had worked hard in preparation of the event; the Holy Mass and the luncheon fellowship.  The event has brought the police and the community closer.
