On March 17, the youths of St Joseph’s Church (SJC) attended their first KL North District Youth Gathering of the year. It was held at the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM).

The youths were greeted with friendly smiles from the youths of other churches. They also had two youth workers from our diocese joining them.

They began by carrying out the Stations of the Cross, led by the youths from Jesus Caritas. The stations were spread throughout FRIM and it eventually brought them to our final destination – the top of a waterfall. They had fellowship at the final station. It was a simple yet satisfying pot bless with a variety of enjoyable food.

Once everyone had filled their stomachs, they had a fun ice breaker. It was a great way for the youths to open up to one another and build friendship so that they would be able to come together and journey with one another to help strengthen the youth foundation in each of their parishes.

They began with the three J’s – JOY MOMENT, JUNK MOMENT and JESUS MOMENT. Not only did they get to know one another, they shared their happy, sad and life-touching moments. They also talked and were reminded of their mission as youth ministries and of being a field hospital – to do what is needed for the young people in their respective parishes. The day ended with a closing prayer and some quiet time to appreciate God in nature. The youth leaders continued to spend time with each other, taking pictures, connecting on social media and exploring the creek before FRIM closed.

This gathering was great for all because they did not expect such a big turnout. So they were able to befriend many youths from the parishes and chapels in the KL North district. It was also heart-warming to see many youths still searching, each finding their way back to God. None of us had expected this fun-filled day to make all laugh and leave with smiles. Not only did we meet new people and make new friends but we also bonded with each other and that reminded us of the importance of friendship!
