Pakistani Bishop backs spiritual project

FAISALABAD: Bishop Joseph Indrias Rehmat of Faisalabad has called for instructors in his diocese to help uplift the Catholic Church spiritually.

His message came during a three-day residential training course for instructors held at Arooj-e-Mariam Pastoral Care Centre Chak 7 in Faisalabad division of Punjab province.

Welcoming all instructors and facilitators, the bishop said he wants a uniformity of altar servers throughout the whole Diocese of Faisalabad.

Under a new initiative, the diocese’s 25 parishes will each appoint an instructor trained by the Catholic Board of Education. The instructor and parish priest will identify 25 altar servers with the help of their church committee.

The instructor will give short classes for altar servers each Saturday at the parish for six months. Every Sunday the whole group of 25 servers along with the instructor will participate in a Mass. A booklet will be used as a guide for altar servers’ formation.

Students who join this activity become part of church service groups participating in Masses.

The project aims to help inculcate healthy Catholic values in students, promoting their faith and making them strong Christians.

It will meet the objectives set forth by the Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference and National Education Catholic Commission to provide formation education.
