“As followers of Christ, we need to know our duty. We are sent by Jesus, as He was sent by the Father. We are sent to bring and to proclaim the Good News to the poor, to the heart broken, to prisoners, etc. We are to share what Jesus is doing in our lives. I have a responsibility to tell what He did in my life. Jesus gives me gladness, strength, guidance in times when I’m facing the darkness in my life.”

Archbishop Julian Leow said this at the Church of St Anthony on June 13 at the evening Mass on the actual feastday of St Anthony of Padua.

The prelate said when we are sent, we are to stay at the place reserved for us, and not move from house to house. It means being contented with what we have.

“Are we reaching out and serving everyone or do we only choose those who can repay us?” asked the archbishop. “The gospel tells us to know our roles and responsibilities. Where we are sent to serve, we serve with all our heart, we serve without counting the cost. We go where Jesus sends us. Let us not lose sight of Jesus where we serve.

“Turn to St Anthony not because we lose our handphones or keys, but for all kinds of things. We should pray not to lose our faith, our family and our way to Jesus. We are not to give up hope, pray for harmony and peace. At this feast of St Anthony, pray for the good and just and right. Ask St Anthony to intercede for us that we will always hold on to our faith in God and pray and intercede for peace in our nation. We focus on Jesus, on our faith, on peace of mind and hope and that we will have all these things close to our hearts. May St Anthony be our constant intercessor and speak on our behalf to Jesus.”

The assembly then adjourned to the carpark area for a dinner fellowship. Some catechism students presented a play based on the life of St Anthony of Padua.

St Anthony of Padua is known by many as a miracle-worker. A countless number of people over the centuries have prayed to him in faith and have received miraculous responses to their prayers.
