Altar servers urged to unite in service for God

Twenty-eight altar servers from the various language groups and churches of City Parish came together for their annual camp, June 4-6 at Church of the Holy Name of Jesus in Balik Pulau.

Themed Awesome God+ Joyful Servers, the servers participated in various formations and team building games to strengthen their faith and unity.

Facilitators Helena Michael, Adrian Oyog and Kenneth Tan spoke on self-identity, vocation and servanthood.

The altar servers learnt of God’s love for them and understood their role as young Catholics giving their time and effort for His greater glory in their ministry.

Through the games, the servers were reminded of the importance of working hand-in-hand to get things done.
Parish priest Msgr Aloysius Tan spent quality time with the altar servers, ministered the Sacrament of Reconciliation and celebrated the Closing Mass of the camp.

He thanked the facilitators, parents and organising team who journeyed faithfully with the young people over the three days.

“The servers were open and courageous in coming together as one team to work together and know each other. They truly represent a great sign of hope for the parish,” Msgr Tan said.

There was a tinge of sadness as the participants left the camp, but they expressed gladness in making new friends and forging closer ties.

“We learnt to listen to God, be thankful and explore our talents through Christ; this camp definitely impacted us in ways I never expected,” said Annabel Nisha.

Another server, Clement Yeap, said that he was inspired to live a life with God and to help each other as a parish community.

“It was a great bonding session amongst all servers; some of us were getting to know each other for the very first time, it helps us to grow closer as a team,” said Janice Ooi.
