KUALA LUMPUR: The twenty candidates from the Arch/Dioceses of Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor completed the second module of the Graduate Certificate of Leadership and Catholic Culture (GCLCC) with five days of study on “Ethics in a Faith Based Context” from the Australian Catholic University (ACU) held at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute (API) from June 5 – 9.

It was a good introduction to the philosophical foundations that undergirds our Christian ethical practice.

The course was conducted in an interactive manner with a combination of lectures, case studies and assignments. There were lively discussion on the different ethical theories and its application in relation to Catholic thought and professional settings. The reflective sessions were thought-provoking and stimulating.

The time together on independent and group work allowed room for exchange of ideas and views. In applying the principles, the candidates were able to relate to the importance of upholding the right ethics in accelerating professionalism and safeguarding our morality.

During the five days of the course, we expanded our understanding of discernment that is in harmony with our Catholic moral tradition. We gained insight into our own responses to the fundamentals of Catholic living.

Grateful thanks to the Archbishop of KL, Bishops of Penang and Johor for making this programme a reality for such a time as this.

The MOU signed between ACU and API has made this leadership programme available to equip the lay leaders of the Church in the various ministries.

The 20 participants who attended the programme were from Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital, ministries from the three Arch/Dioceses as well as from Mount Alvernia Hospital, Singapore. The two-year programme which commenced in Nov 2017 will end in May 2019.
