KULIM, Kedah: The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SHJ) launched its little Creation Corner after the sunset Mass on August 31 in conjunction with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (September 1).

It also marked the start of the Season of Creation which lasts until October 4, the Feastday of St Francis of Assisi, whose statue is given a place of honour in the Corner.

A banner depicting the seven days of the creation story reads: “All creation is sacred. This Creation Corner honours the Trinity in creation: God the Father as Creator, Jesus who holds all creation together, and the Holy Spirit who fills all creation. St. Francis of Assisi is the Patron Saint of all those who promote ecology. He loved creation as his own brothers and sisters. Let us all do the same.”

At the beginning of the consecration ceremony, Msgr Henry Rajoo, Parish Priest of SHJ, said, “When God created the world, it was perfect and beautiful. This little corner is filled with the elements of Mother Earth: plants, water, air, earth and the little creatures in it. This corner honours God’s creation.” He called upon all present to repent of all the harm we humans have done to Mother Earth.

The SHJ Creation Corner was set up by the Creation Justice Ministry of the parish. It showcases local plants in a natural setting with a round water fountain to ensure that water flows in a circular manner as it does in nature. The parish will continue to develop the corner further.

After a reading from Genesis Chapter 2 on the story of creation, the humble Creation Corner was consecrated with a special prayer and blessing. Praising and thanking God for the gift of creation, the congregation earnestly prayed: “Consecrate this Creation Corner, Lord, as a Sacred Space, filled with the power, joy and love of Your Spirit in every leaf, every drop of water, every grain of soil, every flow of air. Let it be a shining light that gives hope and peace to all who come and rest in its serenity.”
