After months of preparation, Thai youth from 11 Catholic schools across Thailand presented a spectacular performance highlighting the history of the Catholic Church in the country and the diversity of culture of countries represented at the Federation of Asian Bishops Conference.
The performance titled Journeying together as the Peoples of Asia involved over 100 students who danced, sang, and re-enacted the arrival of Catholicism in the kingdom more than 350 years ago. Aside from the action on the stage, fellow students provided live singing and music to accompany the performance.
“We are really excited,” said Prao, one of the ballet dancers from St. Joseph Convent School in Bangkok. “We are very thankful that we get to be in this amazing show …. We really enjoyed it, so thank you very much for this amazing experience.”
“I feel very proud performing,” said Pam, a high school student from Bangkok who performed as a traditional Thai dancer. “My parents are here tonight and there are so many people watching.”
Unusually for the predominantly Buddhist country, the whole opening ceremony was broadcast live on national television and livestreamed on social media. -- LiCas News
