After being closed for more than half a year due to the nationwide MCO, the Church of St Francis Xavier (City Parish) reopened its doors in celebration of the feast day of its patron.

From December 3 to 5, the Feast of St Francis Xavier was celebrated with the theme St Francis Xavier, Lead Us to The Mission Of Hope And Love In This Time Of Pandemic. The main preacher for the celebration was Fr Xavier Andrew, parish priest of the Church of the Visitation in Seremban.

On Dec 3, the actual feast, saw the church filled to maximum numbers but with strict compliance to regulations imposed by the authorities.

On Dec 4, the Charismatic Group of the Church of St John Britto celebrated its anniversary in conjunction with the SFX Feast Day.

On Dec 5, Fr Xavier presided over the evening Mass with parish priest Msgr Aloysius Tan and Bishop Emeritus Antony Selvanayagam as concelebrants.

In referring to the Gospel reading, Fr Xavier said that St John the Baptist, together with St Francis Xavier, honoured the Lord through their actions.

“As Christians, we should manifest the peace and joy of the Lord to our surroundings as part of our personal mission,” he said.

Fr Xavier also shared that as followers of Christ, it is important to learn to appreciate the beauty of others and be less of ourselves, for the Lord to increase.

“Let this Advent season be a reminder that we are to make the path straight so that the Lord can reside in us and bring transformation to us,” he said.
