It was an experience of a lifetime for 13 confirmands of City Parish, who attended their Confirmation Camp August 9-11 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

The confirmands attended a specially designed programme entitled Armour of God to strengthen their faith and transform them into brave and missionary disciples of Christ.

This was facilitated by Helena Michael, Andrina Clare, Joachim Xavier and Alicia who journeyed with them, together with several parish catechists.

The confirmands were invited to shield their faith, and were called to lead a life of prayer, attending Mass frequently, receiving the Sacraments and following the scriptures.

One of the topics was on the subject of righteousness. The young candidates were asked to let go and be freed from their sins and receive God’s love.

In the Belt of Truth, they learnt that God’s word is the only truth that is essential for their faith life, and it constantly sanctifies and purifies them.

Being soldiers in the army of Christ, the confirmands were challenged to be ready at all times to serve the God that they love and to share the truth with those they meet.

The young people also experienced a night of inner healing and deliverance, with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The Commissioning Mass was celebrated by parish priest Msgr Aloysius Tan, during which he sent forth the confirmands into their mission of living a life filled with faith, service and prayer.

Msgr Tan met all the confirmands’ parents on the final day. He shared on the importance of grooming the youth to face life’s challenges.

“All of us have played our role in helping the children to grow in their faith; and I am thankful for the efforts from the presenters, catechists and the parents too,” he said.

Confirmation class catechist Catherine Amutha expressed her joy in being able to guide this batch of young adults to prepare for their “big day.”

“The journey was challenging yet worth it. I could sense their boldness and confidence in this camp, their desire for Christ in their lives and serving Him,” she said.
