On April 8, more than 30 people, including students from University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Kolej Politeknik, gathered in the Multipurpose Hall of St Mark’s Church to attend a Taize prayer session which began at 8.00 pm.
This was the second time that the youth of St Markpeter held a Taize prayer session for the faithful. This is a way to pray to God through prayer, meditation and song, as well as foster better relationships among the people.
A Taize prayer was held for the first time when the Holy Cross and icon of the Blessed Mother arrived at St Mark’s Church on March 25. The Chairman of St Mark’s MPUK (Majlis Umat Paroki Katolik), Mr Marius Demeh, feels that the Taize prayer is a beneficial way to spend time with our Lord Jesus in a peaceful and serene atmosphere where we must try to listen to His voice. He also suggested that St Mark’s Church should have taize prayer sessions once a month. Immediately after the conclusion of the Taize prayer session, a song, Today I Feel Happy, was sung, followed by a sharing session.
During the sharing session, Mr Marius Demeh said that the taize prayer is also a sign from the Father in heaven as, in the Gospel of John 9:10-17 where Jesus, filled with love and pity for the crowd, fed five thousand with five barley loaves and two fish.
Mr Arjohn, President of the youth group Markpeter thanked all those who organized the taize prayer session for making it such a success. He was pleased with the development of the youth in St Mark’s and called on them to be more active in programmes organized by the Church.
