KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-five years ago, on the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady, HERALD – The Catholic Fortnightly was launched by the then Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, Most Rev Anthony Soter Fernandez.

This solemn birth of the HERALD took place on September 8, 1994 in the sanctuary of the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Kuala Lumpur.

It was a 10-year dream come true for Archbishop Soter Fernandez. He said the fortnightly would be the voice for the Catholic community as it would look at events and issues in the country and the world from a Christian perspective.

In his speech after the Mass, Archbishop Soter Fernandez urged Catholics in the country to support the newspaper in its prophetic role of helping to bring the Good News to the people.

HERALD started with 12 pages in English. Now it is a 32-page weekly publication in four languages.

In the past twenty-five years, the HERALD has taken a remarkable and fruitful journey as a reliable and unique source of information and spiritual enrichment for Malaysians, especially for the Catholic Community.

--A Thanksgiving Eucharistic Celebration will be held at 6.00pm on Sept 8, 2019 at St John’s Cathedral, Kuala Lumpur.
