Holy See Nuncio to Malaysia arrives on January 21, 2021

Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski, the Apostolic Nuncio for Malaysia and East Timor and Apostolic Delegate to Brunei Darussalam, will arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, Jan 21.

KUALA LUMPUR: Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski, the Apostolic Nuncio for Malaysia and East Timor and Apostolic Delegate to Brunei Darussalam, will arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, Jan 21.

He will be met at the airport by Archbishop Julian Leow, Msgr Marco Sprizzi, Chargé d’affaires and Mr Charles Bertille, Executive Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei (CBCMSB).

Once he has been tested for COVID-19, he will be undergoing his home quarantine at the Apostolic Nunciature.

Afrter undergoing his quarantine, Archbishop Zaluski will meet with Datuk Wan Zaidi Bin Wan Abdullah, the Chief of Protocol, sometime in February.

At a later date, he will present his Letter of Credence as the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to the His Majesty DYMM The Yang DiPertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. Archbishop Zaluski will also present his credentials to the CBCMSB.

Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Zaluski as the Apostolic Nuncio for Malaysia and East Ti mor and Apostolic Delegate to Brunei Darussalam on Sept 28.

Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski will be the second person to head the Apostolic Nunciature in Malaysia.

The first Apostolic Nuncio to Malaysia, Archbishop Joseph Marino, arrived in Malaysia in 2013 and ended his tenure last year when he was appointed president of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome, which is where the Holy See’s diplomats are trained.

The Apostolic Nunciature is the diplomatic mission of the Holy See to Malaysia, and is equivalent to an embassy.

Wojciech Zaluski was born on April 5, 1960, in Zaluski-Lipnie wo, in the centre east of Poland.

On June 1, 1985, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Lomza.

On July 1 he joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See after attending the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome graduating with a Diploma in Diplomatic Science and a Doctorate in Canon Law He has served successfully in the Apostolic Nunciatures of Burundi, Malta, Albania, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Ukraine, the Philippines, and Guatemala.

The 60-year old Archbishop is fluent in Polish, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian. — Agencies
