JOHOR: The Malacca- Johore Campus Ministry has a new full time officer, Daryl Tan (pic). A fresh graduate of the Universiti of Sains Malaysia (USM) with a degree in mechanical engineering, he has committed to serve in the campus ministry under the leadership of the Head of Campus Ministry, Deacon Adrian Ng.

Daryl replaces the former campus ministry officer, Jameson Tan, who served the ministry for over a year.

When asked why he chose to serve in this ministry, he responded by saying that university students are the key and foundational leaders of the Catholic Church, moving forward. Thus, there is a great necessity for proper guidance and formation to be given to these students to ensure they become strong cornerstones of the diocese and the bigger Church.

He added that many Catholic students face transportation struggles to weekly Mass, as well as not having any formed Catholic groups that would serve as a place of growth in knowledge of faith, as well as a Catholic home on campus. Through his experience in the Catholic group in USM, he hopes to bring about a greater outreach to all Catholic students in the diocese and build sustainable Catholic groups in all the 20 campuses in the diocese, providing a “home away from home” which will promote growth and love of the Catholic faith for these students who mostly come from East Malaysia.

Let us pray for his inclusion in the Campus Ministry of the Malaca-Johore Diocese that, through God’s grace, the ministry will flourish, as well as pray for all the Catholic university students
