The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL), Silibin held a Family Day Aug 4.

The theme for the event, My Family is My Greatest Blessing sought to help parishioners treasure the gift of family.

It started off with Mass and the launching of the Family Day by parish priest, Fr Robert Daniel. The 860 parishioners present were divided into five groups consisting of little children, teenagers, adults and senior citizens. Zumba for everyone kickstarted the event.

All activities were geared to fostering a stronger understanding among family members. Pairs of fathers and daughters competed to see how well the fathers could tie up their daughters’ hair. There was a game between husbands and wives; they had to keep a balloon between them and walk about 50 metres without dropping it. Other games were held to foster better relationship among in-laws.

Fr Robert surprised everyone with a treasure hunt. Participants were given an hour to find 30 Malaysian Flags hidden around the church compound. Other activities included

(a) guessing the number of sweets in a box
(b) guessing the amount of money in a jar
(c) lucky draws.

A tug of war was organised for all age categories. It was indeed intense.

The parish community was happy with the outcome of the event. In a rat-race society, time is precious. More precious is time spent with family.
