KUALA LUMPUR (Herald Malaysia): Laughter was heard in a welfare home in Bangsar when the Senior Citizens’ Ministry of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SHC) came acalling for an Outreach Programme, to bring some cheer and joy to the 52 children, many of whom are either orphaned, abandoned or from hardcore poor families.

Twenty-five senior citizens, 12 young adults and 14 children paid a morning visit on October 11 to the Light House Children’s Welfare Home Association in Lucky Garden, Bangsar. They were met and welcomed by the owners of the Home, Mr and Mrs Stevens and their six caregivers.

After the SHC guests introduced themselves to the children, ranging in age from one to 18, Mr Stevens briefed them on the history of the Home, which was opened in 2005. The Children’s Home began in one house and later expanded into 3 houses to care for the current 52 children and the 8 caregivers. The Home is run on donations from the public.

Several parlour games were organized by the SHC guests. The children, including those from SHC, participated. Lunch was sponsored by the Senior Citizens’ Ministry which provided the sumptuous fellowship lunch.

Jessie Low and Patrick Low from the ministry said that the Outreach Programme was a resounding success as they came with Christ’s love and concern for the children.

After lunch, the SHC guests bade farewell to the children with a heavy heart. Mr Stevens invited the group to come again, since the children, who were well-behaved and friendly, longed for more interaction with their guests.
