LAHAD DATU: The 17th Parish Youth Gathering (PYG) was held Sept 22 at St Theresa Parish, Matamba. It is a monthly programme for the youths to gather, celebrate and live their faith as one community. Sixty youths from the parish and outstation parishes participated in this gathering organised by the Parish Youth Apostolate (PYA).

The PYA team chose the theme Catholic Saints so as to connect the youths with the Saints of the Church.

The programme began with an opening prayer followed by the Time of Life session. The participants became more lively during the Ice-Breaking session when they began to interact and mingle with the other youths.

After the introduction, three of the PYA youths gave their sharing on the Catholic faith and why Catholics believe in saints. The saints serve as examples for all Catholics, showing us how to lead more satisfying, spiritual lives in communion with our Lord. They also touched on two important saints who are no strangers to them: St Dominic De Guzman, patron saint of Lahad Datu parish and St Francis Xavier Cabrini, patron saint of migrants.

Towards the end of the programme, the youths were given a period of friendship bonding with fun activities which highlight the importance of teamwork.

The programme concluded with Mass celebrated by Fr Simon Kontou, Parish Rector of St Theresa, Matamba.-- Newsdospo
