VATICAN CITY: The Vatican announced that Holy Thursday evening, April 2, the Holy Father will go to the Rebibbia prison in Rome to meet with inmates and wash their feet, as Jesus had done for His Apostles.

Rebibbia, at times, is considered to be a less than desirable area of Rome, prone to poverty, crime, and dependencies.

At 5:30 p.m. that evening, the Bishop of Rome will celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, at which time, he will wash the feet of several male and female prisoners.

Last year, on the same occasion, the Holy Father washed the feet of elderly and infirm people, which marked a break with the year before where he washed the feet of 12 young people, including Muslims and young women, at a juvenile detention center.

The Vatican also confirmed the Jesuit Pope will also be celebrating Mass in the prison.--Zenit
