Twenty One Priests of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu and Twenty Carmelite cloistered nuns responded to the vaccination program by the Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) May 19.

The vaccination program went smoothly as the clergy showed up as early as 8.30am waiting for their turn in an orderly manner to receive their first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine shot at the Carmelite Monastery here.

At the same time, KKM personnels were given special permission to enter the enclosed monastery to deliver the first shots to the Carmelite nuns.

Head of the Kota Kinabalu Catholic Church, Archbishop John Wong, and Emeritus Archbishop John Lee were also present, arriving at the premise at 9.30am.

Also present on duty were Dr Earl Stanley and Dr Giri Shan Rajahram of Queen Elizabeth Hospital carrying out screening and interview of the recipients’ health status before being vaccinated.

The Catholic Nurses Guild volunteered in the program, assisting the KKM personnels in carrying out basic body check such as blood pressure and blood sugar level, a necessary step prior to the vaccination.––CS
