AYER ITAM, Penang:
Risen Christ Church (RCC) has officially launched a recycling programme to support environmental protection. Spearheaded by the youth, this initiative is inspired by Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’ to care for our Common Home.

The programme, which began last year, has already diverted 1,186.5 kg of waste from landfills, including 408 kg of plastic, 667 kg of paper, and 111.5 kg of metal.

At the programme’s launch on February 15, RCC released a video explaining the details of the initiative, how it works, and how people can get involved. Youth leaders and volunteers shared their dedication to reducing waste and fostering a culture of recycling. In addition to maintaining a recycling station, they aim to introduce more eco-friendly projects in the future.

The youth are encouraging the community to actively participate by sorting and dropping off recyclables at designated collection points. They believe that even small actions can lead to a significant impact.

Through this initiative, RCC is demonstrating that faith and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. With continued effort, they hope to build a greener future for Ayer Itam and beyond. --Isaac Kishen Vincent
