In light of the Diocese of Malacca Johore celebrating its Golden Jubilee, 50 parishioners from the Church of St Philip participated in their parish-level MJD50 pilgrim walk on November 11.

Assistant priest Fr Jason Wong led the event in English, Mandarin and Tamil, concluding with the Holy Eucharist.

At each of the seven stations, there were items representing the sacraments, with Scripture readings, reflections, actions and hymns to help the faithful understand and encounter each sacrament more deeply.

The seven stations were RE-discovering and Renewing our Baptism, RE-discovering and Renewing our Confirmation, RE-discovering and Renewing our Reconciliation, RE-discovering and Renewing our Vocation, RE-discovering and Renewing our Health, and RE-discovering and Renewing our Lord of the Eucharist.

Fr Jason sprinkled holy water on the congregation to exemplify the graces received and reminding us of our Baptism. He then passed the light from the Paschal Candle to parishioners to signify receiving the light of Christ and reminding us of our Confirmation, the light denoting the fire of the Spirit.

Parishioners came forward and touched the church’s main door to ask for forgiveness. Fr Jason gave us a blessing of forgiveness so as to experience God’s mercy and to recall our reconciliation. The unwell who came forward, he anointed with Chrism oil.

Before Mass, each faithful placed an unconsecrated host in the ciborium as a sign of being children of God and being united with Him, ready to receive the body of Christ during the Eucharistic celebration.

Candles were lit before the renewal of Baptismal promises and, after Mass, Fr Jason sent forth his flock to be witnesses of Christ.

The pilgrim walk was an enriching experience for all
