KOTA KINABALU: The Gospel reading during the Chrism Mass on April 11 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral,is a reminder to everyone of the mission entrusted to Christ as well as to every baptised person. Archbishop John Wong stressed this in his homily at the 7.30pm Eucharistic celebration, which was attended by about 1,300 parishioners and priests from the Archdioceseof Kota Kinabalu.

In his homily, the Prelate said, that the text of Isaiah 61:1-9, which Jesus had quoted, is God describing the task and the ministry ofthe long-expected messiah. Jesus understood his mission in life as a Servant of God.

The words of Isaiah, ..‘to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives,to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free and proclaim the Lord’s year of favour.’ definesthe vocation, mission and ministry of Jesus. Today, this mission of Christ is being fulfilled each day, if not by everyone, certainly in some people.

The mission is meant for all....one for all, all for one. Archbishop Wong pointed out that the mission is for those whoare willing to listen and receive the Good News.

“The mission of Christ… is available to all, received by all. It is, in fact, a challenge to every generation to discover, to face and to accomplish,’’said the Archbishop. After the homily, the Archbishop then proceeded to bless the oils presented by Fr Matius, carryingthe Chrism Oil, Fr Gilbert, carrying the Oil for Catechumens and Fr Daniel carrying the Oil for Sick.
