On April 24, the Youths from the parish of St Joseph, Batu Gajah, together with Children’s Wish Society (CWS), a national based NGO providing wishes to children with terminal illness throughout Malaysia brought joy to two children who are suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

DMD is a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. No medical cure has been discovered as yet. CWS gave an insight on how wishes are fulfilled throughout the country and how the organisation is managed through slideshows.

The Youths invited the families of both children to a small gathering where CWS fulfilled their wishes and highlighted their activities.

The youths, on the other hand, gave gifts to the siblings of the children and St Vincent De Paul provided provisions to the families. Fun, games and light refreshments were organised by the Youths.

Navendran , aged 9, received his wish for an I-Pad, while Shoman, aged 13, got his laptop. Their faces brightened as they received their gifts.

Prior to the event, the Youths carried out a fund raising event during the Season of Lent when they sold cupcakes and tidbits for this project. With the blessings from their parish priest Rev Fr Edmond Woon, they got their project running with deep commitment and dedication. It was highlighted to the Youths that this project was to bring the Good News to those who do not know Him and to carry out acts of charity as one of the pillars during this year’s Lenten Campaign.

Evanglia, the protem Chairperson for the Youths, felt very happy and proud to bring a little joy to the families, especially when she handed out gifts to the siblings of Shoman and Navendran. She felt that the effort put in prior to the event was worth the effort. Sharing her views were Veronica, Melvin and Rayan, who felt so blessed seeing both boys smile when they received their gifts.

Although the smiles of the children brought joy to the parents, Rayan and Veronica felt the pain of the parents, knowing the limited time they have with their children. The Youths were indeed proud to have hosted such an event and they hope that this would not be their last. They were grateful to Children’s Wish Society for bringing this event to their parish and bringing SMILES to these children and to those who came to give support for their event.
