As the Church calendar entered its second week of Lent, the parishioners of the Church of Divine Mercy (CDM) were gently reminded of the theme of Love that was printed in its Lenten Card for this year. This was one of the seven themes identified by the parish to assist its parishioners keep their faithful journey of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving during Lent.
In line with this, the Ministry of Hospitality at CDM organised a Blood Donation and Free Health Screening for its parishioners on March 12. Over 90 people of different ages were screened for blood pressure and random blood sugar level. An ophthamologist was also on hand to provide consultation on eye problems.
Thirty four people donated blood. Ten people were turned away due to low blood count. Three people pledged their organs.
The event was graced by the presence of YB Sim Tze Tzin (Member of Parliament for the area) and State Councilor Kumaresen Arumugam. Both gentlemen praised the organisers of this event and were given the assurance that it would be an annual event at CDM.
YB Sim also gave out appreciation certificates to the staff of the General Hospital of Penang and the nearby Health Clinic who came to assist in this event. Two doctors were on hand, as well as current and retired nurses of the parish who came forward to help.
This event was a good way to bring about greater awareness of the things we take for granted with our health and the great gift of life we can be to others.
