IPOH (Herald Malaysia): St Michael’s Church (SMC) Love Squad launched the Lenten campaign on Mar 9, with a short but vivid presentation on charity towards the poor and unfortunate.
The English youth group squad, comprising about 20-odd members, showcased this year’s theme, Charity: the Light of Faith through their portrayal of the handicapped, blind and lame asking for help, as they went up the aisle towards the sanctuary. A group of youths then came forward and presented the “helpless” with a lighted candle depicting their faith in Christ.
A short video presentation followed to underline this year’s message of giving more to charity.
SMC parish priest, Fr Stephen Liew, then officially launched the campaign by unveiling a banner proclaiming the Penang Diocesan Lenten Campaign 2014, and its theme for this year.
Some of the Human Development projects funded by the Lenten campaign are: the Lighthouse (a feeding centre for the poor), Lightworks (which provides jobs for the unemployed urban poor, street people and former addicts, St Peter’s Home (a halfway house for trainees of Lightworks), Brightsparks (ministry with children), diocesan migrant ministry, Fr Julien Agape centre for children’s education and Home for the Aged (Catholic Welfare Services) in Kg Simee Ipoh.
