Many parishes launched the campaign during the Mass of the first Sunday of Lent which was mostly done by the Love Squad members.
At St Francis de Sales parish in Sitiawan, the Love Squad presented a 10 minute skit with just music and dance moves. The parishioners themselves were made to find out for themselves what the skit is about as it played on, which was based on the Good Samaritan.
Two giant palms were seen during the launching at the Taiping Catholic church. These palms had words stuck on each of the 10 fingers, which were closed at first, and later opened up for the launching.
A simple launching, with the unveiling of the Lenten Campaign banner was held at the St Francis Xavier Church, Penang. Fr Dominic Santhiyagu, the parish priest, thanked everyone for their donations to the 2013 Lenten Campaign and hope they will continue to support the 2014 campaign. He remarked that in City Parish, the 2013 collection which was about RM36,000, was channeled to the Diocese. In 2013,City Parish, also received welfare aid of about RM28,000 from the Diocese for the parishioners.
After the unveiling of the banner, the Lenten envelopes and leaflets were distributed to parishioners.
Apart from unveiling the banner, Church of St Anthony, Teluk Intan, also unveiled the ‘Easter Tree’ and ‘Food Basket’, where parishioners can drop food for the poor.
With the enthusiasm shown by the Love Squad members and the parish priests in the launching, and the warm response from the parishioners, the 2014 Penang Diocese Lenten Campaign is set to be a tremendous success.
