VATICAN: Pope Francis well into his sixth year as pope has turned 82 on Dec 17 and shows no sign of slackening the pace that would tire a man half his age.
A few days before his birthday, Pope Francis marked 49 years as an ordained priest. The Pope’s Dec 13 anniversary was pretty much “business” as usual and the day came and went as most other days on his calendar.
The Pope began the day in private prayer before celebrating morning Mass and then having breakfast in the dining room of his Santa Marta Residence. Next came a series of private meetings and group audiences, which included ten new ambassadors to the Holy See who came to present their credentials.
And by this stage of his life you’d think he needs a rest. Not so, Papa Bergoglio. He’s a man on a mission from which he could never retire even if he wanted to.
