Being a police officer entails heavy responsibilities and selfless sacrifices. Even though you hold a position of authority, you must always have a heart of love, human kindness and be the instrument of peace within the community and society.
These words of advice came from Fr Edward Rayappan to some thirty uniformed police personnel at a thanksgiving Eucharistic Celebration at Gajah Berang’s St Theresa’s Church in conjunction with the 207th Police Day anniversary commemoration. Concelebrating was parish priest Fr Peter Ng.
Also joining the Christian uniformed police personnel at the mid-morning service were civilian and retired members of the force along with their family members. DSP Sandra Monica Lowe of the Melaka Police Contingent headquarters was in charge.
In brief remarks, Fr Ng thanked each police personnel for their selfless service to the state and the nation while urging them to continue performing duties and assignments with dedication and commitment. He also noted that the Church and the lay faithful were constantly praying for their safety while on duty.
The hour-long service wound up with the police group rendering their rally Polis Sedia Berkhidmat. This was followed by a march past out of the Church for a breakfast fellowship at the covered compound where attending parishioners mingled freely with the men in blue and their civilian colleagues.
Each of the retired members of the force who attended the thanksgiving service was presented with a fruit hamper while the police personnel jointly handed over a monetary ‘love token’ for the St Theresa’s Building Fund.
